Dementia: An Overview of Types, Symptoms, and Diagnosis

This was the second seminar in our annual group discussions on the general topic of mental health, and was hosted online via Zoom on Saturday June 28, 2025. Over 50 guests joined for a thoughtful, heartfelt conversation about this life-changing syndrome.

The seminar was led by Dr. Cheryl Tugman, a dedicated healthcare professional with over 30 years of experience in patient care, education, and advocacy.

The agenda focused on the following:

  • Dementia: Definition
  • The various types and symptoms of dementia
  • Common myths
  • Demographic statistics
  • Medical treatment
  • The caregiver experience

The presentation was a personal guide through Dr. Tugman’s medical research on all various aspects of dementia, as well as a testimony of her personal experience with her own mother. This amalgamation of scientific facts and personal experience helped the seminar participants to connect and appreciate the daily experiences of families living with dementia., thus leading to many meaningful exchanges with the attendees.

Overall, the seminar tapped into the need for families and communities to carry each other, especially when we are no longer to carry ourselves individually. Please feel free to share your feedback and make suggestions for future seminars on the general topic of mental health.
